Celtic Fiddle Lessons
I offer instruction in playing the fiddle in Celtic styles for all, young or old, beginner to advanced,
whether you read music or wish to learn by ear.
Lessons are typically one hour long at my home in Addison, VT, and include instruction in technique, relevant
theory, and musicality consistent with the style being played. Students can expect a welcoming,
non-intimidating atmosphere in which mistakes are accepted as part of the process.
Fiddling Workshops
I have extensive experience of teaching workshops in both the UK and the USA, including the Hands-on-Music
series in England, Pinewoods Camp in Massachusetts, the Flurry Festival in Saratoga NY, the Northern New Jersey
Folk Project, and at Middlebury College in Vermont, to mention a few. Each workshop usually follows a specific
theme, and I am happy to tailor this to the needs of the musicians. Whilst aimed primarily at fiddlers,
other musicians can usually derive benefit from attending one of my workshops.
Science Tutoring
Having spent 18 years in the UK teaching high school sciences, specifically biology and
chemistry, I now offer science tutoring to either individuals or small groups. Whether it's a complete course
that you want, or just some assistance with specific topics, please contact me
to see what's possible.
Champlain Valley Scottish Fiddle Club
I am co-founder and musical director of the
Champlain Valley Scottish Fiddle Club, a group of fiddlers which meets monthly to enjoy playing,
learning about and sharing music from the great Scottish fiddle tradition. Click on the link to visit our website

Atlantic Crossing
This is the band with which I have played full time for many years. We are a quartet of
musicians who play traditional acoustic music of New England, along with our original compositions based in
these traditions. Not only do we give concerts, but also we are highly in demand to play for contra dances and
celebrations. We have toured extensively in the USA and also in the UK, and now have five recordings to our name.
Please visit www.AtlanticCrossingVt.com
for details, including our calendar of events.
Frost and Fire
This is a recently formed band with which I play, another quartet of musicians who play
traditional acoustic music of Scotland, England and New England, together with our original compositions inspired
by these traditions. We are equally at home playing for Scottish country and English country and contra dances,
as well as giving concerts.
Please visit www.frostandfireband.com for
details, as well as some home-recordings.
Scottish Dance Fiddling
I play fiddle solo, and in various band combinations other than Frost and Fire, for Scottish dances. This was my
musical career for 15 years in the UK, which saw me play all over southern England and in several parts of continental
Europe.
Having for many years been a Scottish country dancer, I am well aware of the what makes the music
danceable, including precise tempo and lift, features of my playing that regularly receive compliments from dancers.
Tune Composition
If you're looking for a personal and unique gift for someone special, why not have me compose a tune? My tunes
are mostly "fiddle tunes" in a traditional style, often with a Scottish leaning. Please
contact me to discuss a suitable style
of tune and my rates.

Solo CD
Between 1997 and 2003 I played as a duo with pianist Lilian Linden. In 2003 we released a CD of some of our own
compositions entitled (informatively if unimaginatively) Peter Macfarlane (Fiddle) &
Lilian Linden (Piano). This CD includes several tune sets arranged for Scottish country dancing, as well as
a few tunes specifically for listening.
This CD is available from me, either by mail order (see below) or by PayPal purchase (button below),
for $15 per CD plus $2 per CD s&h.

Tunebooks
I have also published my own tunebook, entitled North Country. Volume 1 contains 34 of my compositions,
a range of reels, jigs, waltzes, slow airs and more, and was first printed in 2007. Volume 2 came out in
December 2010, containing 43 tunes. Click to see an index of tunes.
These tunebooks are available from me, either by mail order (see below) or by PayPal purchase (button below),
for $15 per book plus $2 per book s&h.
