A joint effort...

  • This piece was a collabrative project with Robert Grzesek. Robert is the author of MeshCAM, a very nice program for generating g-code milling strategies from 3D models and bitmaps. (highly recomended!)
  • I had been testing his version 2 Beta software for about 6 months when he emailed
...As luck would have it, I'm in need of a goldsmith. We have a new 15 week old baby and wanted to make a unique gift for the grandmothers and aunts for xmas. We scanned a clay imprint of his hand to make a necklace. I've got the Rhino part done and I've milled a test version in wax and it turned out really well. I need to find someone who can cast them in gold...

  • He did all of the real work, the bail shown in blue on the model is my only contribution to the modeling work.
  • I milled the two parts separately in wax, with the bail rotated 90°, and assembled the wax pieces before casting. Cast pendants cleaned up, polished and given a satin finish.

Finished Pendant

  • Actual size is 22 mm diameter (7/8")
  • I heard that the grandmothers and aunts were impressed
