Otter Creek Audubon Society maintains email lists for members and friends wishing to receive notices of upcoming events and activist issues.  

If you would like to be added to these lists, please send an email to website@ottercreekaudubon.org and specify if you would like to be added to the Audubon events list, Audubon activist list, or both.


  • Winter Tracking                    

Tracking workshops take place frequently in the winter at Wright Park and other locations around Addison County.  

  • Great Backyard Bird Count
    Friday - Monday
    2nd weekend in February

  • Nest Box Workshop

    A family springtime event sponsored by OCAS, often in collaboration with other area organizations.  Watch the Addison Independent or add your name to the email list for details of this and other specific events.

  • Otter Creek Audubon Society

    on the 

    Otter Creek Access Project

Conservation of a 17-acre property at Weybridge Street and Pulp Mill Bridge Road on the Middlebury-Weybridge line.  For more information, contact the Middlebury Area Land Trust.

  • Spring Hikes and Nature Walks

Check the Addison Independent for details or add your name to the email list to receive an ongoing list of specific events.

  • Salamander Escort 
    Evenings in late March and early April, 7:30 pm on.

    Weather dependent. Otter Creek Audubon will escort migrating blue-spotted and four-toed salamanders across Morgan Rd. in Salisbury on wet nights above
    45 degrees. Help us help these rare salamanders from becoming two-dimensional.

    Contact Warren King to sign up for the telephone tree. You'll be alerted when the migration is on.

  • Clayplain Forest Wildflower Walks

  • Consider joining 
    Otter Creek Audubon's Birdathon in May this year!  Enlist your family or friends to help identify as many birds as you can find in 24 hours and raise money for local or statewide Audubon projects.  You don't need to be an expert birder to participate!!  If you don't want to be a birder, you can sponsor one.

    Otter Creek Audubon BIRDATHON 

    Select your time, place and companions.  See as many species as you can find in a 24-hour period.  Proceeds from sponsors you enlist help support programs of Otter Creek Audubon and/or Audubon Vermont, as you wish.

  • Warbler Warmup
    in May 

    Hone your identification skills prior to this year's
    birdathon, or just enjoy some leaf-free birdwatching.

  • Discover the Trail Around Middlebury
    A Series of Free Hikes for All Ages

Hike series sponsored by one of Otter Creek Audubon's partners, the Middlebury Area Land Trust.  All hikes will take place rain or shine.  Approximate length of each hike is 2 miles.  Trails are not suitable for strollers.  Transportation will be available back to the starting point if needed.  For a listing of dates, or a complete map of the Trail Around Middlebury, please contact the Middlebury Area Land Trust:  388-1007.

  • Basin Harbor Bird Monitoring Project
    throughout spring and summer

Join birders from Otter Creek Audubon and Rutland County Audubon at Basin Harbor
to generate a Basin Harbor bird list.
Outings will occur throughout the warm months.  For details, contact Warren King.

  • Invasive control work days
    Help remove invasive water chestnuts from local rivers and enjoy some time on the water.  Bring canoe, paddles, life jackets, and sunscreen.

  • Addison County River Watch 
          



    Summer 

    Volunteer to help collect water quality data in your favorite stream in Addison County.  Contact Heidi Willis for more information on river monitoring this year.

  • Dead Creek Wildlife Day
    First Saturday in October

A day-long wildlife festival and educational event at Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area on Rte 17 in Addison, just west of the intersection with 22A.

  • Snow Goose Field Station

    Third weekend in October
    mid-morning to mid-afternoon

    At the goose viewing parking area in Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area on Rte 17 in Addison, just west of the intersection with 22A.

    Spotting scopes, information, refreshments, maps.

  • Hawk Watch
    in October 

    Join Audubon members and others on a hike and hawk watch at an area mountain.  Look for details in the Addison Independent in the fall.

 

  • Fall Bird Seed Sale 
    in October

  • Christmas Bird Counts

    Help with one of Audubon's Christmas bird counts in Addison County:
